Ever unsure of your grammar when you’re writing your book or maybe even a blog post? Or maybe you’re a whiz and you want to double check your work. Sure, there are editors for that but if you’re worried about the growing expenses in publishing or you simply don’t have the time to have someone look over your work, there is now an extension for that. Grammarly is a grammar and spell check application that uses innovative methods to search and detect any errors.  The extension, found on Google Chrome store, can even check your grammar on social media websites like Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, and anywhere else on the web while also giving you the option to upload original work for a quick glance over.  Grammarly currently offers two versions for writers to test out for themselves. Grammarly offers limited services compared to their priced option ($29.95 CAD), Grammarly premium.

Grammarly Free Version features includes:

  • Detection of wrong word choice
  • Upload documents online with one simple click for a check over
  • Grammar/ spelling checks on your most used social media platforms

Grammarly Premium features includes:

[unordered_list style=’circle’ number_type=’circle_number’ animate=’no’ font_weight=”]

  • Basic tools provided by the free version.
  • “Advanced Issues” detection such as awkward sentences, incomplete sentences, wordiness, word choice, and a whole lot more
  • Plagiarism checks against a database of over 8 billion web pages
  • Vocabulary enhancement options
  • Option to use it in Microsoft Office for PC users which, in return, makes it easier for writers who are used to the format and layout

The extension can be beneficial to you as it:

[unordered_list style=’circle’ number_type=’circle_number’ animate=’no’ font_weight=”]

  • Saves time
  • Is accountable
  • Boosts confidence in your writing

[/unordered_list]

Despite sounding like the perfect extension to use to write daily, it does suffer a few major flaws such as:

[unordered_list style=’circle’ number_type=’circle_number’ animate=’no’ font_weight=”]

  • No formatting options.
  • Users cannot bold, underline, italicize, indent, etc.
  • Does not detect any missing words in sentences
